The Orléans Bengals Minor Football Association has brought football to thousands of East End kids for over 45 years. The Club has now achieved another milestone by joining the Quebec Midget Football League for the 2018 season. The Midget program will now draw as a member team, fully integrated into the Wilbert Scott Division of the QMFL.
As part of this new venture, we are excited to announce the return of Head Coach Ron Raymond to Orléans football. Coach Ron Raymond was born and raised in Ottawa and attended Andre-Laurendeau High School in Vanier. He is married to a wonderful school teacher Nathalie Néron who works behind the scenes to keep Coach focused and on track. Coach Raymond started his professional career in the Canadian Armed Forces and now manages investments and digital properties in the private sector.
Coach Raymond played minor football with the Minto Colts (NCAFA) and the Ottawa Trojans and started his coaching career in the 1980s. He has helped many quarterbacks perform and succeed at the next level and is one of the few certified Football Canada QB Coaches in Ontario. This season will be his 10th season of coaching since returning to the coaching scene in 2009. With 4 Championships under his belt, we can only expect great leadership for this inaugural QMFL season for the select group of Midget players in Eastern Ontario.
In talking to Coach Raymond over the last week, he has shared with me his staff selections and their collective beliefs on what football does for our youth. Returning as part of the coaching staff will be long-time Dukes Coach Andrew Richardson. I would like to take a moment to thank Coach Richardson for his continued dedication and contribution to Orléans football. His commitment to youth in our community has helped to mold the career of a number of players who have continued their path towards professional football.
The Orléans Midget QMFL team will continue in the long standing Club tradition of commitment to physical/personal growth while being east-end community leaders. Coach Raymond correctly points out: “For any 15, 16 and 17 year old football player the value of QMFL exposure to 4 Quebec Universities and almost all of the CEGEP schools is ground breaking, but secondary the real “next level” that we are coaching this group of student athletes towards is their education, professional careers and family lives long into the future.”
I look forward to watching Coach Raymond’s leadership to inspire our players at all levels, and more importantly, keeping our river rivals the Gatineau Vikings at bay.
I will take this opportunity to shout out to those that paddled the QMFL raft through the years of rough waters to get this QMFL deal done. Our players and National capital / Eastern Ontario football thank you for the new stage. Stay tuned for a series of announcements this week, detailing more information: players registrations, schedule, travel arrangements, costs and a parent/player information session date.
