PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release December 14, 2016
The National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) enters its 62nd year of providing community football programs for boys and girls in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. In addition to the ‘one team’ rule as emphasized by Football Canada, the NCAFA Board of Governors (BOG) on December 13th approved implementation of ‘age realignment’ for fall tackle to better serve the local football community and grow our sport.
Effective for the 2017 season, NCAFA tackle football programs will offer programs region-wide for youth ages 7-18. The move introduces the option for seven year olds to formally join our programs in 2017 while putting more focus on our developmental age groups. The Tyke level will now consist of 7-9 year olds; Mosquito will be 10-11 year olds; Pee Wee will be 12-13 year olds; Bantam 14-15 year olds and Midget will consist of 16-18 year olds.
On the announcement, Steve Dean (NCAFA President) stated, “Our goal is always to serve our community while growing the great sport of football. We know that this re-alignment of ages will position NCAFA to continue our proud and respected history for years to come. The change aligns with Football Canada direction and opens the doors to exciting opportunities for our PeeWee through Midget levels; the National Capital Bowl where we will play post-season All Star games against teams from Quebec as well as possible Bantam and Midget interlock games against solid Quebec programs. We’re excited about the change and look forward to the coming season.”
Like any considerable change, there will be challenges in the transitional year to some families, players and volunteers. NCAFA wants to minimize these challenges by introducing an Implementation Plan that will assist in the transitional year of 2017. An on-line survey will be conducted by NCAFA for input from each team, league Executive and the Eastern Ontario Tackle Football Officials Association. Findings will be presented at the January 2017 NCAFA BOG meeting.
